Innovation Expo in Budapest – the final event
Over 800 tech and business experts and 20 startups and exhibitors celebrated the final event of Telekom Innovation Contest on Monday, May 23, in Budapest. The Innovation Expo brought the motto of the contest to life: “You create. We connect.”. Thinking beyond the horizon, set new impulses to scale and finally setting up new cooperations and collaborations was the claimed goal of the event. Business owners and decision makers from all kinds of levels within Deutsche Telekom and its incubators took the chance to approach the teams scouted by Telekom Innovation Contest. To open up more opportunities to all attendees, the event partnered up with Hungary’s biggest startup conference, the Smart 2016.
Startup scouting to keep the competitiveness
Last autumn the third edition of Telekom Innovation Contest awarded the ten most promising startups active in the field of Industry 4.0, Future communication and Smart Data Analytics. Throughout all contest editions within the last three years, over 950 submissions from 45 countries worldwide have been reviewed by international juries from tech and venture units of Deutsche Telekom. “The aim of the Telekom Innovation Contest is to get to know startups active in industries that determine the present and the future of telecommunications and that may be potential partners of the group of companies. Being a telecommunication company we consider the support and promulgation of innovative technologies and solutions to be our key task.” said Mátyás Dobó, director of Magyar Telekom’s Product House.
Awarded ideas from six countries
The selected teams offer solutions within a wide range of application fields: From language categorization and video services to cyber security (see more details in the appendix). Coming from six countries including Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Switzerland, and the United States, they met in Budapest to connect with Deutsche Telekom Group. Besides presenting their teams to a broad visitors group with a demo and booth, each team pitched on stage and was part of a matchmaking session. Teams from Deutsche Telekoms incubators and accelerator hub:raum and Kitchen Budapest were part of the Expo as well.
The Telekom Innovation Contest story
The Telekom Innovation Contest was created in 2013 by Telekom Innovation Laboratories in Berlin in close collaboration with T-Mobile Poland and Magyar Telekom in Hungary. From 2014 on, the competition was also supported by all of Deutsche Telekom’s incubators – hub:raum in Berlin, Krakow and Tel Aviv, along with Kitchen Budapest and UQBATE, the entrepreneurial program for Deutsche Telekom employees. Other national companies in the Telekom Group in Central and Eastern Europe participated as well.
