What is Telekom Innovation Contest?

Telekom Innovation Contest is an international contest for innovators, startups and SMEs operating in the areas of Industry 4.0/Internet of Things, Smart Data Analytics and Future Communication.

Teams from all over the world are welcome to submit their solutions to win the participation at an exclusive Innovation Expo in Budapest, where representatives from Deutsche Telekom’s business and venture Units, as well as National Companies meet innovators to partner up. Telekom Innovation Contest is powered by Telekom Innovation Laboratories, hub:raum and Kitchen Budapest.

What criteria do I have to meet to apply for Telekom Innovation Contest 2015?

Teams from all countries can apply, however your idea has to cover one of our topics: Industry 4.0 / Internet of Things, Smart Data Analytics or Future Communication. We are asking for at least a working prototype you can show.

How do I apply?

You can submit your solution(s) online via our submission (, which will be open from September 5th until October 18th (extended deadline). Please submit your description and all necessary information in English.

Can I hand in more than one solution?

All innovative solutions are welcome. If you have more than one innovative technology or solution you can submit these under the same login online at our application platform – either in the same category or in another category.

What is the deadline for application?

The deadline has been extended, the submission closes on October 18, 2015 at 23:59 CEST.

Is my data safe?

To submit your idea you have to register with a password. The provided information will be used for contest purposes only. Your personal data will be deleted 6 months after the Innovation Expo in Budapest. The implementation partner EIT ICT Labs Germany GmbH will support Deutsche Telekom AG for administration and evaluation of the submitted material according to German law. The Personal Data is stored on a datacenter in Germany; the transmission path will be secured by TLS/SSL-coding. By submitting your idea within this contest you consent that Deutsche Telekom AG and its subcontractor EIT ICT Labs Germany GmbH will collect, process and store your data according to terms and conditions.

What happens to my intellectual property rights when I submit an application? 

The IPR of the submitted technologies and solutions stay with the submitting party. Any comments, advice, etc. made by Telekom are intellectual property of Deutsche Telekom. This does not mean that Deutsche Telekom has any rights on the solutions once they are submitted to the contest; the initial idea and the IP rights of the submitting party are unaffected by this.

Can I make changes to my application before the submission deadline?

Yes, it will be possible to save your application and edit it until the end of the submission phase. Once you have finally submitted your application, it will be locked from editing. Please note that we will only consider applications that have been finally submitted before October 18, 2015, 23:59 CEST.

How does the selection process look like? 

After October 18, all submissions are screened for completeness and suitability for the contest. The remaining applications are considered for the Innovation Expo in Budapest based on the evaluation by an expert panel (sounding board). The main selection criteria are the impact on the ICT landscape and the impact and strategic fit for Deutsche Telekom Group. Each idea will be evaluated by at least two members of the sounding board to ensure that all ideas are treated equally and no national or other aspects can interfere. The sounding board is made up of expert evaluators from Deutsche Telekom or selected partners.

When will the winners be announced?

The review will be finalized by October 31, 2015. Soon after, the winning teams will be informed.

How do I benefit from taking part in the contest?

As one of the winning teams you will be invited to an exclusive Innovation Expo in Budapest. The event brings together high-level executives and decision makers of Deutsche Telekom with startups and innovators. You will have the chance to meet business owners, representatives of Deutsche Telekom’s venture units, incubators and national companies at this invitation-only event and explore various cooperation opportunities with one of the world’s largest telecommunication companies.

Will the travel expenses to the Innovation Expo in Budapest be covered? 

Yes, each finalist team will receive 500 Euro to cover their travel and accommodation costs. Please note that no additional costs will be covered.
